What to Wear to a Fall Wedding: 5 Easy Trends to Try

Fall weddings are coming. There are many gorgeous options to choose from when dressing for this less formal alternative to a spring or summer soiree. There are plenty of layers, jewel tones and glam fabrics. As you get ready to attend your best friend’s wedding, you may be wondering what to wear. There are so many beautiful options.

There are many easy ways to dress up for a fall wedding. You can also wear something more playful. Our Stitch Fix Stylists have come up with five simple and stylish trends that you can use this fall wedding season. Of course, your Stitch Fix Stylist will do all the heavy lifting for you.

Here are 5 simple trends that you can use this fall for your wedding.

Five easy wedding trends for Fall

1. Trend: The feminine Prairie Dress

Wedding type: Casual, outdoor, daytime Why: It’s on-trend, versatile and just dressedy enough

Fall colors are rich and feminine, so go for ruffles and feminine details.

The prairie dress is both ladylike and approachable. It’s defined by details such as ruffles, flowing sleeves, and sweet straps. It works well for a casual outdoor wedding, especially in the fall months. This is a great way to embrace the rich earthy tones of fall and the feminine silhouettes without having to commit to a formal cocktail dress. Complete the look with a soft shawl or chunky cardigan, and your favorite pair suede boots. Still not sure what dresses to wear for a fall wedding. Stitch Fix Stylists will be there to help you!

If you’re going to a party that goes into the evening, add a fun, second layer. I recommend a cozy cardigan with an oversized fit.

The autumn breeze

2. Trend: the mini dress

Wedding: the in-between party – not casual, but also not black-tie

Why? It’s fun and flirty.

Tip: Choose a print with a playful feel to add zing.

We recommend a playful, mini dress for that wedding invitation that is more “raucous” party than “solemn” ceremony. Two of our favorite minis this season are the halterneck for a seductive look, and the long-sleeved shift for a classic-chic style. Minis in luxurious fabrics such as velvet, cashmere, or fine-gauge knitting are also a great option. They’re chic and practical for outdoor events.

After you have chosen a shape for your mini, it’s time to choose a style. You can go with floral prints in autumnal colors such as bordeaux, emerald or polka dots, or graphic prints, like leopard or polka dotted. Dress up your mini by pairing it with a stylish shoe. We love metallic sandals or kitten-heel boots. You don’t like the idea of bare legs on a mini? Add opaque tights, or sheer black hose. Don’t forget to add a metallic clutch that will shine under the discoball. ( Don’t forget to grab a trendy lady jacket or a cozy cashmere scarf if you are always cold. )

This silhouette is shorter so choose a style that has long sleeves or consider stylish boots to keep warm.

3. Slip dress is in fashion

Weddings at night: more formal

Why: It is a timeless style that enhances your figure.

Mix textures to make it more interesting

Even the most seasoned fashionistas are frightened by the black-tie wedding invite. Do not be afraid! For any occasion, we have a simple outfitting formula: a timeless slipdress, a fabulous coat for fall, and a pair of great heels. Et voila!

The slip dress–sleek and minimalist, most often figure-skimming–lives up to its name. The slip dress is a classic with spaghetti straps, and it’s usually made of slinky materials like satin or silk. It’s meant to be worn effortlessly. It’s feminine, classic and modern. This is the perfect base for accenting with autumnal tonal coats, like the one shown in buttery faux-fur. It creates a monochromatic chic look. Finish off with bejeweled or velvet flats, strappy sandals or velvet mules. Looking for other ways to style this look? We have a comprehensive guide to dress.

Satin slip dresses are stylish, comfortable and classic. Faux fur is the perfect texture to elevate your look.

4. Trend: the jumpsuit

Weddings: modern, nontraditional

Why? It’s comfortable, unexpected and party-friendly

Pro tip: Choose a jumpsuit made of a luxurious fabric to add a touch of glamor

A friendly reminder: There is no dress code for wedding guests. While most people will naturally choose a fall wedding dress, it’s never a bad idea to think outside the box. Enter the Jumpsuit. The style is available in many different silhouettes and cut. Dressy jumpsuits come in halter, wide leg, spaghetti strap, plunging V-neck, or strapless styles with wide or tapered legs.

What makes a jumpsuit formal instead of everyday? Fabrics like velvety plush, satin crepe, and sophisticated lace can be used as a detail or all over. Add a stylish jacket in a beautiful fall color and a classic pump to complete the look. The trending lady jacket is another way to add structure to your look. A statement boot or strappy shoe are also great. You can make it unique in so many different ways.

Jumpsuits can be a stylish and comfortable alternative. They’re also great for dancing! “Don’t be scared to experiment with shapes that aren’t traditional.”

5. Trend: Playful Accessories

Weddings: All and any

Why: It is a great way to show your personality.

Metallic shoes and bags are the perfect accompaniment to rich fall fabrics

What is the easiest way to enjoy a wedding outfit for fall? Accessories. Accessories are a great way to show off your personality, even if you choose to go for a monochromatic, super chic look. Metallic clutches or colorful mini-bags with statement earrings and stacked bangles will complement fall fabrics such as velvet, faux fur, and satin. Ask your Stitch Fix Stylist if you have any questions on how to accessorize a certain look. Easy.)
